On the 13th of may, 2014, a suspected cultist, nicknamed Ajegunle (real name unknown), threatened to kill one of the hardworking and principled corps members of Army Barrack Junior School 3, by the name of Gbeminiyi, who strives to make sure the students dress properly to school in the full school kit (i.e well pressed uniform, white socks, brown sandals, pin earrings, brown belt, etc.) He was dedicated to making sure all students, most especially, the ones in the class he was teaching- senior secondary class 1 in the army barracks senior sch 1, were disciplined and well behaved and never missed an opportunity to punish offenders.
It was obvious gbemi had stepped on the wrong toes, as this guy meant business. Apparently gbemi might have punished him a few days back because it was common knowledge that the senior students were notorious for wearing black socks, matching black belt and sandals which is strongly against school policy.
Prior to this event, the Vice Principal of the army barracks Junior school 3, uncovered a secret cult that went by the name of "black socks". This cult consisted of five JSS3 girls, that always put on black socks to school (hence the name). After flogging the living heavens out of their body, they confessed to drinking Regal and sleeping with the senior boys who in turn protect and fend for them. It was rumoured that one of the girls beaten was "Ajegunle's" gf and so he wanted to take his revenge out on the only person that already had a bad name with them, corper Gbeminiyi.
All efforts to investigate who this so called "Ajegunle" could be was to no avail as students were either too scared to answer or had no idea who he was. Presently, Gbeminiyi is still teaching and full of life, it probably was an empty threat. (Hopefully!)
As much as it is our duty, as their mentors, to make sure these children get good education, proper manners, suitable dress sense and unequivocal advise so they can be disciplined leaders of tomorrow but this can wind up putting that corps member in danger.
For proper security of corps members, we urge NYSC to do a background check to make sure some schools are good enough for posting. Although the case has died down, we implore for more security at schools to prevent the re-occurence of a similar case as it might not have a happy ending as such.
