FASHION FAUX-PAS

By EZINNE AJA

Fashion is a popular practice most often linked to clothing, footwear, accessories, make-up and body piercing. It is the unique and habitual way a person dresses. A person’s fashion defines him/her; therefore, here are some mistakes that should be avoided- Fashion Do's and Don’ts – Fashion Faux-Pas!

FOR THE LADIES:

- Kindly avoid visible panty lines like you’re avoiding a cold. Also, they are called UNDERwear for a reason, why would you wear jeans that show your G-string or worse your booty crack.

- Do not wear a white skirt without appropriate undergarments—we don’t need to know what’s under there.

- Why on earth would you wear see-through leggings or probably ones that have been overused and have lost the quality of the fabric and showing off your panties, why?? If you are skinny and you like wearing leggings, try wearing long tops to cover up the bony structure of the pelvic region. This also for large people with a lot of folds—if you must wear leggings.

- Tight body hugging clothes are not for everyone; make sure it suits your body type.

- Don’t wear heels if you can’t walk with them, it’s not by force.

- Body odour is bad enough, let’s not add hair odor to it—wash those weaves! That’s not to say you shouldn’t wash your body, #justsaying.
If you choose to wear a sleeveless outfit, SHAVE those armpits :)

- If you aren’t going for your clown performance please don’t forget to take off the clown makeup– minimize your make-up.

- The NIKE logo and eyebrows are too different things—draw your eyebrows to compliment your face.

- Talons are not for humans—extremely long nails are NOT necessary (unless of course you’re secretly a bird then that’s fine).

- Ideally contact lenses should be medically prescribed, but just wear lenses that don’t scare little children.
Ripped jeans? That is definitely not allowed.

- Heavy earrings cause the ear lobe to sag over time. As we get older the body sags right, let nature take its course, do not hasten the process.

- If you decide to use concealer and foundation in hot weather, take a dark colored handkerchief to dab your face once in a while to avoid looking like baked ‘puff puff’.

FOR THE GENTS:

- Do not wear suits or really thick jackets in really hot weather.

- If you must sag, wear clean underwear. In general— always wear clean underwear.

- They are called sun glasses for a reason—do not wear them INSIDE!!

- Keep color combination to a minimum—red shoes, shirt, trousers and hats all at once do not cut it.

- Do not keep one long nail; decide if you are keeping them all long. Short nails are preferable for guys though, it just looks better.

- Your sideburns are not supposed to look like a Bluetooth headset with a microphone.

- While we’re on the subject of hair; NOT EVERYBODY HAS TO WEAR A MOHAWK.

- Do not wear really tight jeans—are you trying to accentuate your shape?

- Do not wear boxers and call them shorts. WHY??

- Mix up your patterns appropriately—if you have to wear patterned clothes. This isn’t a game of X’s and O’s.

- Accessorizing is cool but as we know, too much of everything is horrible.

- Ripped jeans? Really? That went out of fashion in 2001.

- Do not underestimate the value of a pair of clean socks.

- Your eye brows are there for a reason, cutting lines into or shaving them off defeats that purpose.

- Different outfits go with different shoes; therefore, combine them well. Don’t go around wearing Trad with dress shoes.

Now, note that some of these points are not restricted to a particular sex. Here are some general things to keep in mind:

God created us differently; We all have different shapes and forms. Appreciate your body, learn to love yourself and dress to compliment your shape.

Your fashion sense makes you stand out, it makes you unique; so make sure you look good. There are many fads out there, but it doesn’t mean everything looks good on you just because it looks good on them. Be unique, be different, be cool, but remember–nothing good done in excess remains good.

The words that come out of your mouth either adds value to your fashion or totally obliterates it. For guys, the way you treat a female has a way of making you look good even if you are dressed ‘not so great’. Ladies, don’t overdo it, there is someone for everyone. In fact, no one should overdo it!
