The Director General of NYSC,
Brigader General Johnson Olawunmi continued to stretch forth his good hands to reaching out to communities by
donating a healthy big fat cow to the people of "Mercy of God Home," an
orphanage in Iwo road, behind diamond bank, Ibadan, Oyo State. The Charity cds
group along with their schedule officer, Miss Akinsanmi Kikelomo were on hand
to accompany the DG's sumptous gift.
The Assistant Director, Skills Acquisition
and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED), Mrs. O., Abiodun did the honour of the
presentation of the DG's gift to the orphanage. She said that the DG sees the
children at the orphanage as future corps members, that is why he sent the cow
so as to take care of them. She also acknowledged the efforts of the corps
members in the Charity cds group for their commitment in reaching out to the
less priviledge. The president of Charity CDS group, Akhigbemidu O. Rex, said
that the group is about showing passion and love to one's immediate environment
especially to the less priviledge. "If you don't have love, you can't
touch lives and if you don't touch lives, you'll have a broken spirit."
Rex advised philantropists to emulate the DG's humanitarian gesture to touch
lives and give the less priviledge a chance of survival as they are also the
future of the nation.
Speaking with Mrs Adisa
Modupe, the founder of the orphanage, she expressed her delight and overflowing
joy in the act showed by the DG for delivering such an overwhelming surprise to
her orphanage. She mentioned that the orphanage was established in 2001 and has
been subject to existence by funds and support from individuals, noticeably
corps members. She thanked God and prayed that the DG continues to find favour
in the eyes of the Almighty. "I really thank God for the life of the DG
for sending this big cow to us. God will continue to be with him and never
foresake him in all his endeavours."
In the words of John Buyan, you
have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never
repay you.
