Corps
members in Oyo State and the country at large have been called upon to be loyal
and committed to Nigeria.
The
Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brig Gen. Johnson Olawumi
made the call during his visit to Oyo state permanent orientation camp located in
Iseyin. The DG urged corps members to avoid the use of derogatory words when talking
about Nigeria.
He
said “I believe that the country will be better regardless of the slow pace of its
growth. The process of change may take some time, but change will definitely happen.”
Brig Gen. Olawumi while addressing the corps members appealed with them to take advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program of the NYSC.
According
to him, the SAED Scheme was initiated in other to make employers of labour out of
corps members and not mere job seekers.
The
NYSC boss did not mince words when calling on all and sundry to be security conscious
considering the terrorism challenge the country and the world at large is faced
with.
Olawumi
further advised Corps Members to stay in the places of their primary assignment,
“avoid unnecessary journeys and learn the traditions and cultures of the community”
so as to be equipped with the right information and solution that will be beneficial
to the community.
Earlier
in her welcome address, the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Akin-Moses
announced that two thousand two hundred and forty two corps members were registered, kitted and accommodated at the state permanent orientation
camp for the 2015 batch B, stream 1 orientation exercise.
According to the State Coordinator, “the orientation
camp is conducive enough with adequate water and electricity supply as well as capable
security officials to ensure security of lives and property of corps members and
NYSC officials with programs designed to make our stay on camp an interesting one.”
The NYSC Oyo State Cultural Troupe did not lag behind
as they thrilled the DG, his entourage, camp officials and corps members to various
traditional dance steps. The martial art group also was not left out as they displayed
their martial skills.
