The Oyo State
Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Olurunmilayo
Akin-Moses has urged all 2015 Batch B Corps members deployed to the State to
make discipline their watch word as they begin their one year service to their
fatherland.
Mrs. Akin-Moses gave
the advice while briefing Corps members at the State Orientation Camp in
Iseyin. Mrs. Akin-Moses also encouraged them to be disciplined while in Camp
and even after camp so as to enjoy an itch-free service year.
The Coordinator in her
remarks congratulated the Batch B Corps members for making it to this stage of
their lives and encouraged them to participate fully in all camp activities so
as to not only pass through the orientation exercise but also for the
orientation exercise to pass through them.
Mrs. Akin-Moses, who
has a degree in History from the Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, also
stated that NYSC has lined up various programmes for the Corps members during
their stay on camp such as the leadership and citizenship training with the
Man-O-War, Military drills, social and cultural displays amongst others; and
stressed the importance of active participation in all of these programmes.
The Ekiti State born
Coordinator, warned Corps members that failure to participate fully in the
orientation exercise: the Primary Assignment, Community Development Service and
the Winding up and Passing Out Parade, which are the four cardinal programmes
of the one year national service will result in such Corps members not being
given the certificate of service at the end of the service year.
She also told them that
there are National Awards for Corps members who stood out during their service
year and kicked against the idea of Corps members paying certain amount of
money to influence their posting to a certain area for their primary assignment
at the end of the orientation exercise.
The briefing had in
attendance principal officers of the NYSC in the State, including the Camp
Director, Mrs. O. Lusesi; Camp
Commandant, Major Muazu Adamu; Head of Publicity and Orientation Broadcast
Station (OBS), Mr. S.K. Bankole amongst others.
The orientation exercise which began on Wednesday,
October 28th, is expected to run for three weeks and end on November 16th,
2015.
