Corpers Fitness; Our Concerned Soldiers

by Braimoh Abimbola

Humour struck as corps members residing in Mokola Barracks were asked to participate in compulsory exercise every morning before going to their various places of primary assignment. The recent development is an idea brought up by the Commandant General as a means of keeping corps members fit in the discharge of their civic duties to their father land.

Speaking with an officer who pleaded anonymity, he commented that the idea of the early morning exercise is to ensure that corps members don’t fall sick or grow lazy as the exercises will help them to keep fit and avoid visiting the hospital throughout the service year.

In an interview with some corps members residing in the barracks, they gave their views on the compulsory morning exercise. Segun, a Batch B corps member, said the idea is okay for him, but those who cannot handle it should not be compelled to partake. Tope, a Batch C corps member, also expressed the view that the compulsory exercise is a welcome development as exercise makes people smarter. Damola, a Batch A corps member, on the other hand was not pleased with the new rule.   “I’m not the exercise type and would have preferred we do it on our own, without force”, he said.

Corps members who do not comply with the rule would be required to move out from the block and allow the law-abiding ones to enjoy their stay without stress.
