TOP TEN NEWS THAT BROKE THE INTERNET IN 2014

It's that time of the year again when we all do some shoppings, distribute hampers, receive gifts and await Santa, but while we do that, let's take you back on a few gists, news or maybe memes that almost broke the internet in 2014.

10. Sexy Mugshot Guy

Jeremy Meeks broke hearts and the law in 2014. The 30-year-old convict had the Internet pining for bad boys when the Stockton Police Department posted his mugshot on Facebook in June. The photo definitely broke the internet when ladies wanted to bail him just cos he already stole their hearts too. The photo also inspired the #FelonCrushFriday and head shakes from mothers everywhere.

9. Suarez - The Biter

Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez took a bite out of the World Cup - and the Italian player, Giorgio Chiellini. With less than 12 minutes of time left on the clock in a tied game, Suarez tried to gain an advantage by locking down, teeth first on Chiellini's shoulder. This definitely had him being tested and results were negative for rabies, but positive for meme-ability.

 8. Eternally Young Pharell's Hat

At the 2014 Grammy Awards, Pharrell Williams wore a hat large enough to fit Miley Cyrus and her wrecking ball inside. The Vivian Westwood's oversized hat became one of the most recurring jokes of 2014.
 7. Kermit's That's None of My Business Tea

Kermit the Frog sipping tea is as at now, still the best way to passively insult something/someone. All you need do is 'Sip tea'. In June, the "But That's None of My Business" Kermit meme emerged on Reddit, Twitter and Tumblr. It's not easy bein' green, but it's easy to throw shade when a Muppet helps you, but that's none of my business.

 6. Jay-Z vs Solange

Beyoncé and Jay Z’s image as the perfect showbiz couple was shattered, when video leaked of Queen B’s sister, Solange, viciously attacking Jay in an elevator on their way out of a MET Ball after-party. While we may never know for sure what happened that fateful night, one thing’s for sure: Bey and Jay’s image has yet to recover.

 5. Ellen DeGeneres' Oscar Selfie

Let's go back to the Oscars…Host, Ellen DeGeneres literally broke Twitter when she posted this star-studded selfie to her account. The picture - featuring Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Channing Tatum, Brangelina, Kevin Spacey, Julia Roberts and Lupita Nyong’o - quickly became the most re-tweeted picture of all time.

4. The Wests - Kim & Kanye

Not ones to be outdone, Kimye, as called by fans, quickly earned the title of ‘Most Liked Photo on Instagram’ when Kim Kardashian West posted this image to her account. The picture - from their May 2014 wedding - has over 2.3 million likes and counting. They probably would be the most talked about power couple of 2014. Good luck keeping up with them.

3. Queen Beyoncé

Beyoncé has a knack for sending the internet into overdrive. Yes, no one does it better than Queen B herself. Remember that time she released her fifth studio album in the midnight without any prior announcement, complete with amazing music videos for every song. In something that wasn't such a surprise, it became the fastest-selling album in iTunes Store history. That's what happens when a Queen is really drunk in love.

 2. The Ice Bucket Challenge

Remember when this was the talk of the season, between July and August when ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) Ice bucket challenge took US by storm. Everyone from Ethel Kennedy to Justin Timberlake has poured a bucket of ice water over his or her head and challenged others do the same or make a donation to fight ALS within twenty-four hours. This didn't just break the internet but also broke the ALS record as it received an astonishing $4 million in donations compared to $1.12 million during the same time period last year. For some of us who wondered what it was all about, the whole thing was for charity.

 1. Kim Kardashian West's Paper Magazine Cover

Just when you think she's done, she takes the Internet again by storm. The Keeping up With the Kardashians star, Kim K and Paper magazine took a crack at breaking the Internet with a cover photo of the reality star's oil-slathered derriere. Love her or not, the Internet couldn't just stop talking about and spoofing the photograph, hence, taking the number 1 spot on our countdown.

Have a lovely new year people!
